What stays on your phone
Your appointments, clients, services, message templates and the log of messages you have sent are stored inside the app, on your phone — in its own database and settings file, and nowhere else. When you link a client to someone in your phone's contacts, the app keeps that person's name and number with the client so it can show them without a signal; it only ever reads your contacts, never changes them, and never copies your address book anywhere. None of this is uploaded. Reeminder has no accounts, no sign-up and no cloud, and it contains no advertising and no analytics tools of any kind. One thing is worth knowing: on Android, if your phone's own backup is switched on, Android may include the app's data in the backup it makes to your Google account. That is your phone's backup and your account — we have no access to it, and you turn it on or off in the phone's settings.
The messages you send
Reminders go out from your own phone, your own SIM and your own number, like any other text message. On Android, if you have given the app permission to send SMS, it can send them for you; on iPhone — and in the version from Google Play — you tap a reminder, the message opens ready in your phone's own messaging screen, and you press Send. Either way the message travels from your phone to your client through your mobile operator. It never passes through any server of ours: we do not see who you write to, we do not see what you wrote, and your clients' phone numbers are never sent to us.
Activating a licence — the one thing the app sends us
When you tap Activate, or open the activation link from your purchase e-mail, the app asks licensing.reeminder.app whether your key is valid, sending the key itself and a device identifier, and gets back a yes or a no. That is the only request the app ever makes that carries anything of yours. The device identifier is a short string that stands for this installation of Reeminder on this phone — it is not your phone number, not an advertising ID, and there is nothing in it that names you; on our side only a one-way hash of it is stored. It exists so that one key unlocks one phone, and so that your own phone can activate again after a reinstall instead of using up your only activation. The app then remembers the answer and never asks again: no check at start-up, no phoning home.
Paying for Reeminder
If you buy directly from us, the app or the website opens Stripe's payment page in your browser. Stripe is the seller on your receipt: it takes your card details and your e-mail address, and we never see the card. From Stripe we receive your e-mail address, the country and language of the purchase and a payment reference, and we use them to send you your key and to help you if something goes wrong with it. If you buy inside the app instead — through the App Store on iPhone, or Google Play on Android — that store handles the whole transaction, the app unlocks on the device, and no payment details reach us at all.
Crashes and update checks
If Reeminder crashes, nothing is sent automatically. The app prepares an e-mail for you, addressed to the same address as at the bottom of this page — app version, phone model, system version, the time and the technical trace of the failure, with none of your appointments or clients in it — and you decide whether to send it. You can read it first, edit it, or simply delete it; if you do not send it, we never see it. Separately, the Android version downloaded from this website asks reeminder.app once a day whether a newer one exists, by fetching a small file (/download/latest.json). It is an ordinary request for a static file, the same one any visitor to the site makes, with no key, no identifier and nothing about you attached; a new version is only downloaded and installed if you tap Install. Versions installed from an app store do not do this at all — the store handles updates.
What this website collects
If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics to see anonymous, aggregated usage — which pages are visited and roughly from which country. We never collect your name, email or any account, because Reeminder has no accounts. We don't sell or share your data, and we never use it for advertising.
Cookies, and what the page loads
Nothing is stored on your device until you press Accept. If you do, Google Analytics sets two cookies (_ga and _gid) to tell one visit from another. Google acts as our processor and may transfer data to the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Your IP address is shortened and never stored in full. If you press Reject, no analytics cookies are set at all. Two things are always loaded from elsewhere, whatever you choose: the typefaces come from Google Fonts, and the QR code on the download page from a QR-code service. Your browser asks them for a file, so they see your IP address; neither sets a cookie. The site itself is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps the ordinary server logs any web host keeps.
How long things are kept, and how to delete them
On your phone: what the app stores stays there until you delete it. Uninstalling takes the whole database with it, message log included — we cannot recover any of it, so if it matters to you, export a backup file from Settings first and keep it somewhere safe. On our side: for each licence bought directly from us we keep one record — the key, the e-mail you bought with, the country and language of the purchase, the Stripe payment reference and, once you activate, the hashed device identifier. We keep it for as long as the licence is valid, because it is what lets us re-send your key or move it to a new phone. Ask us and we will delete it; that also means the key can no longer be verified, so tell us if you would rather we only cleared the device it is bound to. Stripe keeps its own record of the payment under its own policy and its own legal duties, and that part is not ours to delete.
Your choices and rights
You can change your mind about cookies at any time with the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. Under the GDPR you may ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use — just email us. There is very little of it, so it does not take long. You can also complain to your national data-protection authority.
